Teen artists earn all-state honors

Young artists from FCPS have picked up several awards in the Kentucky Art Education Association’s all-state competition, which culminates with a closing reception April 17 at Dixie Heights High School in Kenton County. 

In the visual art categories, 11 top-scoring pieces from the Bluegrass regional exhibition advanced to the state contest in Northern Kentucky, and these eight earned honors:

  • First place in painting: Ariel Sniegowski, Paul Laurence Dunbar, “Paralyzed in Forethought”
  • First place in jewelry/metal smithing: Alex DeMoll, Lafayette, “Serenity”
  • Second place in cultural heritage/diversity: Jesi Hoelzer, Bryan Station, “Lotus”
  • Third place in fashion design: Melinda McKinley, Dunbar, “Puff”
  • Third place in graphic design: Josie Degler, Dunbar, Class of 2011 T-shirt
  • Third place in mixed media: Ariel Sniegowski, Dunbar, “Einsteinio”
  • Honorable mention in digital media: Gabe Adkins, Lafayette, “Birdbot”
  • Honorable mention in fiber arts & textile design: Erin Hardy, Lafayette, “The Cat’s Meow”
