FCPS kids shine in STLP state contests

Students from across Kentucky participated in the STLP state championships at Rupp Arena. Kids demonstrated technology skills in several categories as schools and individuals earned honors for high-quality digital art, music, videos, writing and interactive content.
The year-end spring event also pitted more than 300 showcase projects from eight regional competitions in the Student Technology Leadership Program.
Top performers from Fayette County Public Schools included:
- Best in Group / Showcase: Bryan Station High School, Des Ex Machina - Hydrogen Fuel Cell
- Top 10 Runner-up / Showcase and 2nd place in Video Documentary: Tapan Darji, Julius Marks Elementary School, “Faces from Other Places”
- 1st place in Flight Simulation: David McKinney, Eastside Technical Center
- 2nd place in Web Design: Zach Salyers, Eastside Technical Center
- 2nd place in Scripting: James Richardson, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
- Outstanding Project Award: Julius Marks Elementary School, for overall enthusiasm
- Morehead GPS project to map Kentucky’s historical markers: Bryan Station High School

In addition, Bryan Station High School, Lansdowne Elementary, Lexington Traditional Magnet School, Russell Cave Elementary and Stonewall Elementary were recognized for achieving “gold” STLP status. This designation signifies a program is among the best in the state, benefiting not only its students and school but also its community.
Established in 1994, STLP is a project-based learning program that empowers students in all grade levels to use technology to learn and achieve.
