Free sign languages classes available this spring

Fayette County Public Schools will again offer sign language classes this spring – beginner and intermediate level – for district employees, parents and other interested community members.

Each 10-week class will be limited to the first 30 people who register with Michelle Gaines at (859) 381-3456. There is no cost to participate.

Families & community members:

These classes will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday nights: Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28; Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25; and March 4, 11.

The beginners’ class, taught by Kelly Southgate, will convene in the annex cafeteria at It’s About Kids Support Services, 701 E. Main St. The intermediate group, led by Laura Marshall, will gather in the annex library.

FCPS faculty & staff:

These classes will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday nights: Jan. 4, 11, 25; Feb. 8, 22; March 8, 15, 22; and April 5, 12.

The beginners’ class, led by Terri May, will be in the annex cafeteria. The intermediate class, taught by Jan DeTienne, will meet in the annex library.


Note: If schools close because of bad weather, the sign language classes will be cancelled as well, and make-up days will be scheduled.
