Dozens of Fayette County Public Schools employees marked their retirement with a May 22 districtwide celebration at the Embassy Suites on Newtown Pike.

“Your belief in our kids is what makes Fayette County schools a special place to work,” Becky Sagan, chair of the Board of Education, said in welcoming the honorees and other guests.

The retirees and their friends, families and supporters enjoyed the evening of fellowship and dinner, along with chamber music by an ensemble from SCAPA Bluegrass.

The spring 2010 retirees have logged a combined 2,760 years of service. In honor of their dedication, each received a hardwood cherry rocking chair (provided through donations).

“The scary part for us is the wisdom that’s walking out the door,” said Superintendent Stu Silberman, who later added, “You’ve made a difference, you’ve changed lives, and I just want to say thank you.”
