Three students from Fayette County Public Schools won an Award of Merit at the national level of the PTA’s annual Reflections contest:

  • Daniel Callahan, Primary Film Production, “Night at the Aquarium,” Veterans Park Elementary;
  • Dasia Woods, Intermediate Film Production, “Beauty Lies in Me,” Julius Marks Elementary; and
  • Arunita Kar, Senior Literature, “Creations of a Simple Name,” Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

They each will receive a silver-plated Reflections medallion, a certificate and letter signed by the national PTA president, and recognition in the PTA Reflections online gallery.

The PTA encourages students to pursue artistic expression through its Reflections program, which since 1968 has offered kids a chance to create works of art for fun and recognition. The program has six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts (including such media as drawing, painting, print-making and collage).

After local and statewide competition, FCPS sent 11 entries to the national contest this year.
