Josh Radner, in his fifth year at Yates, has been selected as Kentucky’s 2009 Elementary Science Teacher of the Year.

“One of my strengths is I’m really genuinely interested in the stuff I teach. I’m highly curious about animals and ecosystems,” said Radner, who grew up in Washington, D.C.

He also credits fellow staff at Yates, where the team-teaching approach works well.

“Our expectations are aligned,” Radner said. “We’re sharing responsibility for making sure these kids learn.”

The statewide award comes from the Kentucky Science Teachers Association. Radner will be honored at the annual meeting Nov. 6 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. He will receive free registration for the conference, a plaque and a one-year membership in the organization.
