16th District PTA hands out thanks, awards

The 16th District PTA celebrated several active schools, outstanding students and dedicated volunteers at its annual recognition luncheon, held May 20 at the Four Points Sheraton.
PTA President Jessica Berry noted how pulling together as a team makes all the difference, with ‘team’ standing for Together Everyone Achieves More. She thanked the volunteers for their commitment and passion to advocate for kids and help all students reach their potential.
“That’s what this journey is about – touching the lives of children,” Berry said.
Congratulations to the following honorees from all across Fayette County Public Schools.
Scholarship awards ($1,000 each): Shelby Taylor, Bryan Station High; Alexander Hammond Gardner, Henry Clay High; Erin Amanda Baker, Lafayette High; Arlene Wang, Paul Laurence Dunbar High; Brandon Thomas Williams, Tates Creek High; Alyss Zimmerman, Eastside Technical Center; Jackee Williams, Southside Technical Center; and Tania Delgado, Opportunity Middle College.
Attendance awards (for districtwide roundtable meetings): Dixie, Garden Springs, Julius Marks, Maxwell, Millcreek, Rosa Parks, Sandersville and Stonewall elementary schools; Beaumont, Jessie Clark, Southern and Tates Creek middle schools; Bryan Station, Lafayette and Tates Creek high schools.
For 100 percent student participation in the Reflections art program: Dixie, Garden Springs, Lansdowne and Millcreek elementary schools.
PTA membership awards for greatest percentage growth since last year: Garden Springs Elementary, Winburn Middle School and Bryan Station High School.
Awards for highest percentage of PTA membership based on student enrollment: Veterans Park Elementary, Winburn Middle School and Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
Maggie Price Award, for courage and devotion through volunteerism: Jaime Nebbitt, chairwoman of the PTA’s cultural arts/Reflections committee.
Lifetime Recognition Awards: Linda Prater of Arlington Elementary and school board member Kirk Tinsley.
