Michael Druggan, a junior at Tates Creek High School, is one of the nation’s top-12 scorers in this year’s USA Math Olympiad.
A total of 328 students from the U.S. and Canada qualified and participated in the Math Olympiad, a two-day essay/proof exam with six questions.
In June, Michael will travel to Washington, D.C., for awards ceremonies and to compete for a spot on the International USA Math Olympiad team. This six-member group will later go to Kazakhstan to compete against teams from around the world.
Math is not Michael’s only forte. This spring he recorded a perfect score on the ACT college entrance exam, which includes tests in English, reading, science and mathematics. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and the student’s composite score is the average of the four tests.
