Leadership Lexington Youth has tapped Miles Christian Clark, a sophomore at Henry Clay High School, for its 2010 Distinguished Leader Award.

The honor was announced April 7 at the Leadership Lexington Youth graduation ceremony. Christian will be formally recognized at the Commerce Lexington annual dinner in early 2011 and will receive a $1,000 scholarship upon high school graduation.

“I got a glimpse into the adult world, and I feel more prepared now. It’s given me a sense of direction as far as what I want to do,” said Christian, who explored potential careers and learned how to handle himself in the business world.

Christian, who is leaning toward drama and the performance arts, especially enjoyed visiting the Lexington Children’s Theatre, where he shadowed the director and watched the actors practice.

Leadership Lexington Youth “was a lot more than I expected,” he added. “It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.”

The Distinguished Leader Award honors a class member who demonstrates strong principles and dedication to community service. Candidates are nominated by class members, and the program’s steering committee selects the winner.

The criteria include creativity, good communication and interpersonal skills, and potential to make a difference in the community. The committee also considers a nominee’s attendance record, participation in optional programs and involvement with the class project.
