Students gather honors in regional speech competition

Lafayette High School, the host, finished second in the senior high level of the Kentucky High School Speech League’s Bluegrass Regional Tournament. Paul Laurence Dunbar High was third.

On the junior level, SCAPA Bluegrass came in first, followed by Morton and Beaumont middle schools.  

In addition to the outstanding team efforts, several students distinguished themselves in individual competition Feb. 13. Top results from Fayette County Public Schools included: 

Lafayette High School:

  • Broadcasting, 1st place - Madeline Carey
  • Poetry, 1st place - Jennifer Rhodenhiser
  • Storytelling, 1st place - Madeline Carey
  • Duo Interpretation of Literature, 2nd place - Emily Collier and Jill Richardson 

Paul Laurence Dunbar High School:

  • Dramatic Interpretation of Literature, 2nd place - Simeon Kondev
  • Improv Duo Acting, 2nd place - David Agtar and Neena Phan 

SCAPA Bluegrass:

  • Duo Acting, 1st place - Madi Fogarty and Ashley Whaley; 2nd place - Clark Davis and Isaac Hines-Williams
  • Extemporaneous, 1st place - Connor Van Meter; 2nd place - Taylor Bagley
  • Interpretation of Literature, 1st place - Isaac Hines-Williams; 2nd place - Clark Davis
  • Solo Acting, 1st place - Alex Franke; 2nd place - Callie Babcock
  • Storytelling, 1st place - Kurtis Brown; 2nd place - Callie Babcock
  • Prose, 1st, Bryn Eichorn
  • Broadcasting, 2nd place - Kate Cox
  • Declamation, 2nd place - Dylan Rowe
  • Public Speaking, 2nd place - Ashley Whaley 

Morton Middle School:

  • Improv Duo, 1st place - Charlotte Foley and Amelia Giancarlo; 2nd place - Shannon Brady and Jenna Lawson
  • Poetry, 1st place - Maddie Fish; 2nd place - Jenna Lawson
  • Broadcasting , 1st place - Katie Shannon
  • Declamation, 1st place - Harper Toney 

Beaumont Middle School:

  • Public Speaking, 1st place - Adeline Agtarap
  • Prose, 2nd place - Adeline Agtarap
