Fayette County’s Staci Davis has been named the 2010 Kentucky Engineering and Technology Education Middle School Teacher of the Year.

In her ninth year at Southern Middle School, she was chosen by fellow teachers from across the state and the KETEA’s leadership committee.

Davis described how a dozen things are going on at once in her school lab – with stations ranging from rocketry, dragster cars and electronics to broadcasting, engineering towers and environmental issues.

“It’s important that our students learn that technology is more than just computers or their cell phones. It’s a broad area that encompasses a lot of career-based activities that hopefully will help them find interests for the future,” she said.

Davis, who is also the Technology Student Association advisor at Southern Middle, is a native of Cave City who earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Kentucky University.

The Kentucky Engineering and Technology Education Association presented her its “Program of the Year” award in 2004.

Davis will receive a plaque for her latest KETEA honor at this summer’s Kentucky Association for Career and Technical Education Leadership and Learning state conference, set for July 18-21 in Louisville.
