Diann Shuffett, a Special Education administrator in Fayette County Public Schools, received a Best Practice Award in the area of counseling from the Kentucky Association for Psychology in the Schools. Her work with a homebound student was particularly noted.
“I have attempted to instill practices that provide for analyzing student needs, developing a curriculum, planning for generalization and monitoring progress,” Shuffett said.
KAPS president Misty Lay, who presided at the Sept. 11 statewide conference in Louisville, spoke highly of her. “Diann’s dedication to the field of school psychology and the children of your district is highly commendable,” she said.
The Best Practice Award is the top honor for KAPS’ counseling specialty; thus Shuffett was among four finalists for Kentucky School Psychologist of the Year.
“Diann is a wonderful support for the school psychologists and diagnosticians, and this award is well-deserved,” said Courtney Bishop, a psychologist at Squires and Athens-Chilesburg elementary schools who attended the conference.
