Meadowthorpe Elementary topped Region 20 in the annual Governor’s Cup, which is Kentucky’s premier academic competition, and Garden Springs Elementary finished third. 

The Governor’s Cup was founded in 1986 as a way to promote, recognize and reward outstanding achievement. The competition consists of five written assessment exams, composition (on-demand writing), future problem-solving and quick recall (also known as quiz bowl).  

The middle grades and high school divisions include a district, regional and state competition. In the elementary division, students take part in a district and a regional contest. 

Here are the top Fayette County Public Schools results from the elementary Region 20 contest, which wrapped up March 20: 

• Math: 3^rd Thirushan Wignakumar, Rosa Parks Elementary; T4^th Eric Cao, Ashland; Nicholas SirLouis, Picadome; David Ma, Meadowthorpe. 
• Science: 1^st Evan Hays, Maxwell; 2^nd Vicki Wong, Meadowthorpe; 4^th Thirushan Wignakumar, Rosa Parks; 5^th Corban Ellis, Dixie.
