Mike Jones, who has been an associate principal at Henry Clay High School for four years, has been named the new principal at Crawford Middle School.

Fayette County Schools Superintendent Stu Silberman praised Jones, saying, “Mike brings a lot of administrative experience. Serving as an associate principal at HCHS gives him a strong base from which to start. He is very eager and ready to get started.”

“I can’t wait to meet with the faculty, staff, families, students and community at Crawford so that together we can work to ensure that all of our kids are receiving the very best education possible,” Jones said. “Everyone I’ve met so far has made me feel welcome, and I am excited about the possibilities here.”

Jones, a Paris native, joined the district in January 2000 as a special education teacher at Tates Creek High School, where he also coached girls’ soccer. He has served on the School-Based Decision Making councils at Tates Creek High, Henry Clay High and Squires Elementary, where his son and daughter attend school.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work in two schools where I’ve been placed into leadership roles, so I’ve been able to grow professionally,” he said. “Crawford Middle is a place with great students, a committed staff and wonderful sense of pride. Together, I know we can become a premier middle school in the state.”

Jones, 35, earned a B.A. in special education and middle school social studies at the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in instructional leadership at Eastern Kentucky University. He attends Crossroads Christian Church and enjoys golf and spending time with his kids, 10-year-old Parker and 7-year-old Emily.

“Mike consistently demonstrated effective leadership skills and strong technical knowledge to serve as a school leader,” said Jack Hayes, the district’s director of Student Achievement Support. “Mike is well-respected not only by his colleagues at Henry Clay but across the district, and we look forward to the many celebrations to come at Crawford under his leadership.”
