Winburn came out on top in the 2010 Middle School Battle of the Books, a nationally recognized reading incentive program.
In this series of intra-district competitions, students are encouraged not only to read, but to read with dedicated attention to details. The Fayette County Public Schools program had 10 schools participate this year, including one from neighboring Scott County.
In the May 12 finals at “It’s About Kids” Support Services, Beaumont Middle was runner-up, and Edythe J. Hayes Middle School finished third.
Each spring, the coaches select the next year’s titles, appealing to a variety of interests and reading levels. For more information, contact library resource specialist Candy Zaluski.
