ArtStampsStephanie Stumbur of SCAPA Bluegrass won first place in the 10-12 age bracket and a $500 prize in the 2009 National Artistic Achievement Awards competition.

Her entry was a watercolor-and-colored-pencil drawing of a pomegranate, her favorite fruit.

The contest is sponsored by ArtStamps, a school fundraising company that turns student artwork into U.S. postage stamps, note cards and other products. The awards recognized 50 students from across the nation in five age groups, selected on the originality and creativity of their artwork.

This honor is designed to remind students, parents, teachers and school administrators that creativity is important to every child’s education.
