FCPS well-represented in all-state bands

Across Kentucky, young musicians compete for spots in the all-state bands, orchestra and jazz band, presenting advanced etudes (studies) for their specific instrument. Students must make the first cut to qualify for the December live auditions in Elizabethtown.

Those who win seats in the concert band, symphonic band, orchestra (winds) and jazz band travel to Louisville in February for three days of intense rehearsals with internationally recognized conductors. The all-state groups then perform as featured ensembles at the Kentucky Music Educators Association’s in-service conference.

Fayette County Public Schools congratulates these students on their selection for the 2010 all-state ensembles:   

From Bryan Station High School – on bass clarinet: Micah Tatum. Directors: Shaun Owens and Don Hicks.

From Henry Clay High School – on flute: Katie Silver, Becca Saylor and Sarah Stevens; on clarinet: Anna Kraemer and Jade Daugherty: on alto saxophone: Nathan Bush; on trumpet: Daniel Polk and Jesse Kurth; on snare: Andrew Riley. Directors: Bill Kite and Jeff Bayerle.

From Lafayette High School – on flute: Chloe McIntosh; on oboe: Meredith Burns, Stella Sharpe and Sydnee Webb; on bassoon: Turner Hawkins; on clarinet: Bethany Kirk; on French horn: Emily Wilson; on trombone: Clay Gonzalez; on euphonium: Brian Frick and Chris Baldani. From Paul Laurence Dunbar High School – on flute: Katie Thompson; on oboe: Grace Tsai; on bassoon: Cody Putman; on clarinet: Marcie Bosworth; on trumpet: Samantha Barnhardt; on trombone: Michael Bourne and Casey Clark; on euphonium: Trevor Young and Kavon Javaherian; on tuba: Blake Stahl.
