Three Fayette County schools – Edythe J. Hayes and Morton Middle and Lafayette High – picked up first-place trophies in the Jamfest Winter Jam competition Dec. 13 at the Lexington Center.
The Hayes cheer squad also was among those named Most Entertaining.
“This team knows how to put the ‘pep’ in cheerleading, and they understand the meaning of what it takes to make a winning team: hard work, perseverance and leadership,” said Deedra Murray, a co-coach at Hayes.
The Winter Jam included teams from Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.
Hayes placed first in the L3 Junior High Cheer category, with Morton’s green squad coming in fifth. Morton’s gold squad was tops in the L3 Freshman Cheer division, and Lafayette was first in the L5 Large Varsity Cheer (non-spring floor) group.
