Beth Randolph, who has taught at SCAPA at Bluegrass since 1988, has been chosen as Kentucky’s 2009 History Teacher of the Year.
She will receive a $1,000 prize and will be in the running for the National History Teacher of the Year award this fall. In addition, a core archive of history books and materials will be given to the SCAPA library.
Randolph is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she earned her B.A. and M.A. in elementary education.
“Ms. Randolph’s active, hands-on classroom projects, in- and out-of-state field trips and overall love of American history convinced the judges that she deserved this honor,” said Rebecca Hanly, administrator of the Kentucky Historical Society’s teacher and student outreach program. “One judge even noted, ‘I wish she was everyone’s fifth-grade teacher.’”
The state award is administered by the Kentucky Historical Society and sponsored by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. For more information, contact Hanly at (502) 564-1792, ext. 4475, or e-mail Rebecca.Hanly@ky.gov.
