Margaret Hall Noger, a rising senior at Henry Clay High School, is one of Kentucky’s two finalists in the Samsung American Legion Scholarship competition. She and 99 other students from around the country will receive at least $1,000 apiece; the top winner will get a $20,000 scholarship. The results will be announced this fall.
The staff of Kentucky Girls State selected Noger during the weeklong program at the University of the Cumberlands in June. She was chosen based on academics, school and community involvement, and financial need.
At Henry Clay High School, Noger competes on the track team, serves as treasurer of the National Honor Society and is a DARE role model and a student athletic trainer. She is a member of the Beta Club, the Anchor Club and the Young Republicans. Noger plans to major in biochemistry or pre-medicine, with the goal of becoming a pediatrician specializing in childhood genetic disorders.
Samsung, in recognition of the sacrifice and commitment of U.S. servicemen and women who served during the Korean War, has joined with the American Legion to offer educational opportunities to descendants of wartime veterans who have served honorably. Delegates to Boys State and Girls State can apply for the scholarships. Maggie Noger’s grandfather, Martin Charles Noger, served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
