At the World Language Festival, students from across the school district demonstrated their cultural knowledge and competed in proficiency assessments. First-, second- and third-place winners will advance to the state competition, set for May 16 at the University of Kentucky.

Listen in for a taste of the festival:

Roughly 1,500 entries registered in the Fayette County Public Schools festival – more than double last year’s participation. Some students even signed up for multiple events at the March 25-26 festival, hosted by Bryan Station High School.

During proficiency testing, judges assessed students’ language skills in several areas including reading, recitation, dialogue, writing, and oral and listening proficiency. In the cultural assessments, the spectrum ranged from chorus, dance and drama to costumes, artwork and video productions.
