The academic team at Henry Clay High School recently competed online in the Knowledge Master Open with tens of thousands of students in the U.S. and several other countries.

The Henry Clay students scored 1,707 of 2,000 possible points to place first in Kentucky and fifth overall in a field of 695 high schools in their division.

More than 2,000 middle school, junior high and high school teams turned to their computers Dec. 3 to answer 200 challenging questions, earning points for speed and accuracy.

Academic coach Richard Holloway, a history teacher, said the event demonstrated not only that his students are bright but also that they can perform well under pressure.

The Henry Clay team included Stephen Fritz, Grant Boggess, Sam Yu, William Fritz, Jared Gibson, Preston Goulson, Ben Luckey, Naveed Bakh, Bo Hur, David Frabael, Dan Richey and Matt Bojanoskwi.

The Knowledge Master Open allows students to compete in a large academic event without the expense  of traveling to a central site. The competition is presented twice a school year by Academic Hallmarks, a Colorado software publisher.
