Demetrius Pennie, a freshman at Bryan Station High School, is one of 100 students nationwide and the only one from Kentucky chosen to attend the 2009 Disney’s Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey, an event that aims to inspire and enrich high school students.
“It’s about kids being able to pursue their dreams. I really want to be a chef when I grow up and own my own restaurant one day,” said Pennie, who plans to major in culinary arts in college and then attend a cooking school like Le Cordon Bleu.
The kids will gather Feb. 12-15 at the Walt Disney World Resort to participate in workshops with Disney executive and employees, hear inspirational stories from celebrities and professional athletes, and enjoy the Florida theme parks.
The 100 students were nominated by friends, parents, church members, teachers and others who recognize their special qualities and the kids’ power to dream big, whether in business or entertainment.
“We want to give our young achievers the tools to become overachievers – to make their dreams a reality,” said Harvey, a syndicated radio show host.
