Steven Willis, a senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High, was selected Youth Achiever of the Year for the YMCA Black Achievers program. Steven received a cash award and was honored at the group’s 24th annual banquet, held April 18 at the Marriott Griffin Gate.
The Black Achievers program connects students with positive adult role models in the community and offers activities designed to give kids in grades 7-12 exposure to career, educational and social opportunities that are not readily available to them.
In addition to Willis, these 16 seniors will receive scholarships and/or cash awards based on their Black Achievers’ senior packet score, number of years and attendance in the program, GPA and ACT score:
From Bryan Station High: Anatasia Decquir, Jazzlyn Gossett, Jhavid Harbut, Stephen Hayes, Ashlei Jackson, Kiara Lofton, Jeremiah Mabson and Faith Smith.
From Henry Clay High: Richard Bell and Jessica Obi.
From Lafayette High: Colette Comer, Angelina Hunt, Chandler Smith and Courtney Smith.
From Paul Laurence Dunbar High: Lauren Mitchell and Timothy Ross.
