Fayette County students have turned in a strong showing in the 24th annual Bluegrass Regional High School Art Exhibition. Melissa Hurd of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School led the way, taking the prize for “Best of Show Overall.”

In the visual art categories, the eight students who earned first-place honors now advance to the state competition in April.

More than a dozen high schools from nine counties participated in the regional contest, sponsored by the Kentucky Art Education Association. Hosted by Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Art & Design, this exhibition features the area’s most creative young artists from grades 9-12.  The winning artwork can be seen through March 26 in the Giles Gallery in the Campbell building on the Richmond campus.
