Paul Laurence Dunbar’s JV quick-recall team earned first-place honors at the Kentucky Derby Academic Festival, held April 25-26 in Louisville.

    The students competed against 48 high school teams from across the state in written and quick-recall events. 

    Dunbar’s teams won first and second in the written competition, conducted by the  Kentucky Mensa chapter. For the second straight year, Brian Fei won a silver julep cup and a $100 bond for the top individual score.

   The Dunbar quick-recall team, consisting of Jay Li, Ping Chen, Ailin Shen and Brian Fei, won $1,000 in scholarship money. The school’s B team (Anuj Patwardhan, Sandy Huang, Victor Macrinici, Helen Fu and Tim Cui) finished third and received $250 for scholarships.
