FAME gives graduating seniors an opportunity to thank and recognize teachers who have made a difference in their lives. This year, 104 students submitted essays to nominate a favorite teacher for a FAME Award!
    Five students – one from each high school – won a $100 book scholarship from eCampus.com, and each read his or her essay aloud at the FAME ceremony, held April 13 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel.
    The winners included:
  • Sara Antel from Tates Creek High School, honoring Michael Feeback, her track coach and science teacher;
  • Timesha Floyd from Bryan Station High School, honoring Lanisha Evans, her careers teacher and step team coach;
  • David Parell from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, honoring Karen Young, his physics teacher;
  • Jessica Sewell from Henry Clay High School, honoring Kathy Mefford, her third-grade teacher;
  • James Douglas Waterbury-Tieman from Lafayette High School, honoring Susan Owens, his elementary school music teacher.
    National City Bank, which donated pocket-size dictionaries and thesauruses for all 104 students, sponsors the annual FAME reception. The students also received congratulatory certificates and medals from FCPS, while each teacher honoree got a personalized pen and a copy of his or her student’s essay.
