Mayor Jim Newberry and Fayette Schools Superintendent Stu Silberman will co-host a screening of 2 Million Minutes, an hour-long documentary examining how China, India and the United States prepare students for the future during the 2 million minutes that young people spend in high school.
The screening, the first in Kentucky, is free and open to the public and it begins at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, at Bryan Station High School auditorium.
“This presents a great opportunity, particularly for parents, to gain a strong understanding of how some of the choices our children make in middle and high school can affect their future,” said Newberry, who thanked Clyde Pelton, Executive Director of UBS Financial Services in Lexington, for its generous support of the evening’s program.
After the screening, Robert Compton, producer of the film, will lead a panel discussion. Panelists include Newberry, Silberman, UK Provost Dr. Kumble R. Subbaswamy, Chair of the Prichard Committee Chair and former mayor Pam Miller, and Group President ACS-BPS Tom Blodgett. The documentary has been endorsed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The documentary has received national attention, with stories appearing in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and on the Associated Press wire. For more information, go to the 2 Million Minutes website at http://www.2mminutes.com/.
