Colleges select National Merit winners

Nine Fayette County Public Schools students are among more than 2,800 seniors who have been awarded National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities.
 
College officials selected their winners from among finalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their school. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Allan J. Vestal, Henry Clay High, journalism, University of Missouri-Columbia;

Emily C. Lawler of Paul Laurence Dunbar High, biology, UK.
 
Richard E. Parsons, Dunbar, medicine, UK;
