Calendar art contest rewards creativity

Artwork by 19 youngsters from across Fayette County has been honored in the school district’s annual calendar art contest. More than 170 entries were submitted by art teachers, and volunteers from the arts community judged the winners.
All of the artwork is on display at ArtsPlace, 161 N. Mill St., through May 17.
The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays.

These 14 students will see their art featured in the Fayette County Public Schools 2008-2009 calendar: Hannah Barker, Picadome Elementary; Sophie Bell, Maxwell Elementary; Moneisha Carter, Southern Middle; Taylor Eggers, Glendover Elementary; Olivia Erickson, Henry Clay High; Brianna Gomez, Julia R Ewan Elementary; Moises Hernandez, Russell Cave Elementary; Matthew Jackson, Bryan Station High; Ashlea McIllwain, Lafayette High; Morgan Mills, Tates Creek Elementary; David Nieves, Early Start Family Care Center; Kelly Sanders, Beaumont Middle; Julia Scheurich, Veterans Park Elementary; and Azaleah Warren, Deep Springs Elementary.
Art by these five students will be featured in next year’s AT&T Real Yellow Pages: De’Marrea Allen, Stonewall Elementary; Nathaniel Blankenship, Henry Clay High; Eddie Resendiz, Bryan Station High; Virginia Smith, Clays Mill Elementary and Ariel Sniegowski, Paul Laurence Dunbar High.
