Patti Works, a Cassidy Elementary School science teacher, was recently named the Kentucky Elementary Science Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Science Teachers Association.
Ms. Works was nominated for the honor by a fellow teacher and was chosen, in part, for her participation in staff development and professional leadership activities that directly impact her students’ achievement.
“Getting this award is an honor because it means that people recognize that I truly love what I do,” she said. “I have been so fortunate to get to work with elementary kids focusing on science - possibly the area of academics that most encourages creativity and problem solving.”
A graduate of Iowa State University, she has been with the Fayette County Public Schools for 17 years. Ms. Works previously taught science at Yates Elementary.
