SCAPA selected to represent Kentucky at America's 400th Anniversary Weekend

The School for the Creative and Performing Arts, Bluegrass has just been selected to be an official representative of the State of Kentucky in performance at America's 400thAnniversary Weekend,commemorating the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Jamestown settlement in Virginia - America's birthplace. The goal of this very special anniversary is to capture the spirit, imagination, and diversity of Americans and to develop that energy into a national event that showcases Virginia's unique role as the birthplace of modern America and the cradle of American democratic traditions, cultures, ideologies and principles - 400 years strong. Ms. Millie Fields was informed of this selection based on outstanding recommendations of her music program.
Members of The School for the Creative and Performing Arts, Bluegrass will perform in the anniversary's signature event - a finale musical performance to take place on Sunday, May 13th• This concert will include nationally recognized talent, and current plans are to provide national television coverage. Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor will serve as Honorary Chair of the Anniversary Weekend, and invitations have been extended to Queen Elizabeth II and President George Bush to attend. Other local and state dignitaries are expected to be present.
A commemorative choir of 1,607 singers will perform alongside a commemorative orchestra of 400 musicians for this event. In addition to being part of the festival, The School for the Creative and Performing Arts, Bluegrass will also have the opportunity to perform a stand-alone, featured performance for the many
thousands of visitors that will be present for the Anniversary Weekend.
While visiting in the Historic Triangle area (Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown), the choir will be able to participate in outstanding sightseeing available at some of the most historic sites in our country's history. There will also be opportunities for the group to view some of the many Anniversary-related events that will take place throughout the week, plus time to unwind at Busch Gardens, named the world's "Favorite Theme Park" for the fourth year ina row.
The Historic Triangle will host this anniversary, in addition to numerous other commemorative events over a span of 18 months beginning in the spring of 2006.
The goal of the organizers is to include at least one musical ensemble from each of the 50 states to participate in America's 400th Anniversary Weekend.
