Veterans Park Elementary has been certified as a Parent Involvement School of Excellence by the National Parent Teacher Association. The school is one of 15 in Kentucky to receive the honor and the second in Fayette County.

Certification is valid for three years and recognizes schools that uphold the highest standards in parent involvement. The award evaluated how well Veterans Park involved parents in communication, parenting, student learning, volunteering, school decision making and community collaboration.

The certification process offers schools the opportunity to evaluate their strengths and accomplishments in parent involvement while shedding light on areas that need improvement.   Veterans Park’s PTA was recognized in part for their school wide events that foster parent involvement through activities like the science fair, family dinner nights, monthly meetings, literacy nights and arts nights.

“This award is a real honor for our PTA,” said Veterans Park principal Amy McVey.   “They are a model for PTA's across the nation with their continued support for both our students and families. They provide support in funding and most importantly thousands of volunteer hours every year to help support our teachers and assure that all our kids succeed.”
