Lions and tigers and Josh Harrellson? Oh, my! Yes, that was the feeling at Athens-Chilesburg Elementary as staff and students launched another successful state testing season with “ACE Goes to Hollywood.”
Each year the school designates a theme to boost kids’ excitement about demonstrating their knowledge on the Kentucky Core Content Test (KCCT). This spring, PTA parents decorated the hallways with everything from popcorn arches and paparazzi posters to life-size Oscars and celebrities.
The day before testing began, ACE staffers got into the spirit and into costume for a star-filled kickoff to remind students to do their best on the test. Kids also had a chance to walk the red carpet as photographers jostled for close-ups of the true ACE stars.
Famous favorites wished them their best, including Marilyn Monroe, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Elvis, Michael Jackson, The Mask, Oprah Winfrey, Men in Black, Beyonce, the Progresso lady, Paris Hilton, characters from “The Wizard of Oz,” Wonder Woman and Spider-Man. UK sports standouts Tim Couch, Josh Harrellson and Darius Miller were also on hand to encourage the youngsters.
As an added treat, third-grade teachers starred in an inspired and inspirational music video called "Don't Stress / Rock This Test."
