In the hallways outside the gym, kids enjoyed hands-on activities and educational displays from The Explorium and others.

More than 600 students competed in the 26th annual Kentucky American Water/Fayette County Public Schools Science Fair.

Projects from grades 4 through 12 packed the gym Feb. 6 at Bryan Station High School. Parents -- many with cameras in hand -- waited anxiously on the sidelines as the judges moved up and down the rows to question the budding young scientists.

In the nearby hallways, students enjoyed hands-on activities and interactive exhibits from The Explorium, the University of Kentucky, the Arboretum and others.

The science-fair recognitions included KAW Water Awards and the Mayor’s Urban Environmental Awards.

Grade-level and category winners advance to the Central Kentucky Regional Science and Engineering Fair, set for Feb. 27 at the University of Kentucky.
