Art teachers submitted 202 entries for the annual calendar art contest in Fayette County Public Schools. Volunteers from the arts community helped judge the pieces, and the winners were unveiled April 29 during the first of two receptions at the ArtsPlace gallery.

The 2010-2011 district calendar and family handbook will feature the artwork of these 14 students:

  • Sophia Brown, 12th grade, Henry Clay High School
  • Richana Campbell, 11th grade, Bryan Station High School
  • Ana Castellanos, 8th grade, Morton Middle School
  • Layne Chadwell, 7th grade, Winburn Middle School
  • Jake Duby, 5th grade, Glendover Elementary
  • Jade Florance, 3rd grade, Southern Elementary School
  • Anya Hartman, 2nd grade, Athens-Chilesburg Elementary
  • Thomas Kinison, 8th grade, Edythe J. Hayes Middle School
  • Ellen Lee, 3rd grade, Sandersville Elementary
  • Bronagh McQueen, kindergarten, Dixie Elementary Magnet
  • Madison Selack, 1st grade, Cassidy Elementary
  • Kadin Setters, 5th grade, Millcreek Elementary

The calendar design team, which puts the publication together in early summer, will determine which artwork is assigned to which month of the year. For questions about the calendar or the contest, call Heidi Reihing in the FCPS Communications Office at (859) 381-4794.

All 202 entries are on display through May 8 at ArtsPlace, 161 N. Mill St. The gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Call (859) 233-1469 for more details.

Every student and staff member in the district will receive a calendar in August during the first week of school. Additional copies (in English and Spanish) will be available at It’s About Kids Support Services, 701 E. Main St.
