5/20/08 Project Graduation was 'AWESOME!'

More than 300 students turned out at Applebee’s Park for the 2008 comeback of Project Graduation, a drug- and alcohol-free celebration for Fayette County seniors.
The goal was to provide graduates with a safe, fun environment without temptations. They had a variety of activities to choose from at the baseball stadium – including bingo, casino games, inflatable sumo-suit wrestling, rock-wall climbing, sack races and karaoke.
The “Night on the Town” lock-in got a little soggy with the intermittent rain showers, but the students seemed to have a good time anyway.
Rebekah Dailey, a senior at Henry Clay High School, was one of the forces behind the scenes – both in the event’s revival after a several-year hiatus and in its May 17 execution.
“It was AWESOME!” Dailey said the next day. “Spectators loved to watch the sumo suits and the jousting! They were hilarious!”
Organizers did not get as much backing from the community as they had hoped. But “we are extremely grateful for the support we did receive and are in the process of trying to thank each and every one of our volunteers, supporters and sponsors,” Dailey said.
