The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Tates Creek High School

Since the 2002-2003 school year, the faculty and staff of Tates Creek High School has been actively pursuing bringing an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to our school. This programme is the most rigorous and relevant college preparatory programme in today's global society. While the IB Programme is a demanding programme, students who pursue the IB Diploma not only have a strong academic foundation but also have a solid work ethic and are willing to meet the academic rigors of the programme.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Tates Creek High School in August of 2007.

The International Baccalaureate Organization, which began in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland, aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and life long learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The TCHS ACE Pre Diploma Programme (PDP) is a two year preparatory program for the IB Diploma Programme to be fully implemented at the start of the 2007-2008 school year.

To maximize student success in the IB programme the "IB Learners" should strive to be:

  • Inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective learners.
  • They should have a strong work ethic.
  • Have a strong academic background
  • In addition to the academic requirements of the IB Diploma Programme, the unique components include the Theory of Knowledge class (TOK) taken during the second semester of the junior year and the first semester of the senior year; Creativity, Action and Service, (CAS) which begins the summer prior to the start of the junior year and concludes during the second semester of the senior year and the Extended Essay (EE), a research based project completed during the junior and senior years.
