Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC)

Two of Fayette County’s high schools – Bryan Station and Henry Clay – offer Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps programs. Though they represent different branches of the military, they share a common purpose: helping students develop leadership skills, confidence and self-discipline.

ROTC is a college-based, officer commissioning program that focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic planning and professional ethics; it’s designed for college students who plan to enlist in the armed forces. JROTC is the high school model, which is offered as an elective course.

JROTC, which is taught by retired military personnel, prepares students for life – not necessarily for the military. Classes cover such basics as history, government and current events, and extracurricular activities include opportunities like drill team and color guard.

Out of area

Students who are assigned to other high schools may apply for the JROTC programs, though Bryan Station students may not apply at Henry Clay and vice versa. If accepted, a student must then complete an out-of-area request:
