International Baccalaureate at TCMS
Tates Creek is the first middle school in Kentucky to gain “International Baccalaureate” status with its Middle Years Programme.
Established to ensure that diplomats' children had access to a unified and challenging curriculum, the IB program has grown into a network of more than 3,000 schools worldwide.
Securing IB status requires a redesign of course offerings, extensive professional development and the adoption of instructional practices that tie learning to real-world problem solving and international understanding.
Unlike the high school IB Programme, which targets select students, the middle school offering is for the entire school.
All students at Tates Creek Middle take eight IB courses a year. In addition to the four core subjects of reading, math, social studies and science, they have performing arts, foreign language, technology, and physical education and health.
