School To Work
The School To Work program involves three areas:
- School-based learning, whereby young people can learn math, science, language arts, technology and other skills and standards in the context of the world of work.
- Work-based learning, wherein young people gain practical experience and training.
- Connecting activities, which focus on creating links between employers, schools, teachers, students and others — "matching" young people with employers and training.
Goals:
Achieving high academic standards. Core subjects are stressed.
Staying in school. Young people are encouraged and expected to stay in school, meet graduation requirements and develop into responsible citizens.
Connecting work and learning. Lifelong learning is emphasized, with a focus on problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making.
Improving career opportunities. As young people gain hands-on training and experience, their job prospects grow.
