CLASSIFIED ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTESMay 16 , 2005MEMBERS PRESENT: JoAnn Bright – Custodians; Phyllis Abernathy, Gail Grimes – Paraeducators; Fay Isaacs – Secretarial/Clerical; Terri Horn – Operations; Jim Adams – Technology; Marcus Dobbs, Scott LaFollette – Transportation. ADMINISTRATORS PRESENT: Stu Silberman, Superintendent; Mary Browning, CFO; Diana Shoop – Human Resources. Stu called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. OLD BUSINESS:Stu complimented the progress made this year from the council with emphasis made to the Flex Policy for all classified employees and the Professional Development Workshops to be scheduled throughout the year for office professionals. NEW BUSINESS:PARAEDUCATORS:Gail Grimes asked how the summer jobs are assigned to interested parties wanting to work. Stu responded that positions are posted on the Internet and interested parties respond according to individual capacities. All positions are opened and filled internally first and if there are vacancies remaining, the district will look externally. Phyllis Abernathy indicated that pink slips had been issued and Para educators have no choice but to wait for the fourth day count in the schools for rehiring. SECRETARIAL/CLERICAL:Fay Isaacs reported that within the network of office professionals sadness had occurred with the death of Sue Hufnagel’s (Morton Middle) husband and Sheila Cope’s (Lansdowne Elementary) brother. Fay indicated there had been a good response to the PD workshop scheduled for June 6 – over 100 responded within two days. Thanks to the district for assisting in making this a reality. Betty Spohn of St Joseph Behavioral Network will discuss “Boiling Frogs & Dinosaur Brains” Dealing With Difficult Situations at Work and Feeling Good (or at Least Better) About It. Tates Creek High School will be the host meeting place. Fay asked who made the decision of changing the wording on purchase orders to vendors regarding the shipping of orders. Mary responded this occurred to meet an exemption the auditors wrote in their report of district accounting. She is aware of the recent communication from school office professionals and the impact it will cause all concerned. She said it is being re-evaluated and hopefully they will come up with a solution that will be satisfactory to all parties. On a last note, Fay announced that Beth Johnson had resigned from her assigned work position, leaving a vacancy for a clerical council representative. In discussing this with Liz Simpson, the alternate will fill this vacancy until elections take place in the fall. TRANSPORTATION:Marcus Dobbs thanked the district for picking up the $15 fee fro mandated “S” endorsement on the CDL licenses for school bus drivers, but wanted to know if there is an easier way to pay the fees without creating multiple purchase orders to pay for these fees. Mary Browning responded she will check on a more friendly procedure. Stu responded that our school district is one of the few who pick up this cost. In response to the Advisory Council request, Scott LaFollette presented several plan options to the unsafe traffic situation and route delays for bus drivers at Paul Laurence Dunbar High. Stu and Mary Browning thanked Scott for all of his work on this presentation and want to discuss it further with the Board, Dunbar’s principal and Scott wants to discuss it with Mr. Kiser. The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m. The next scheduled meeting, June 20 has been cancelled. Classified Advisory Council Home Last update: 5/27/2005 8:24:19 AM |
