Classified Council Minutes

September 17, 2001

MEMBERS PRESENT: Bonnie Kelley and Monica Johnson, Secretarial/Clerical; Mike Baker, Operations; Walter Kirk, Custodial; Doug Botkin and Russ Southworth, Maintenance and Gail Grimes, Instructional Assistant.

ADMINISTRATORS PRESENT: Doug Marshall, Budget Services

OLD BUSINESS:

Doug Marshall stated that he has not received necessary information referencing a “maximum number of hours an employee can work during a 24-hour period.” He is trying to check the relevant labor laws and will report to Council when information is available.

Walter Kirk stated that there is a custodian who has been off on worker's comp. The custodian was allowed to return to work doing “light duty.” Since there was no light duty in the custodial position, this custodian was allowed to work part-time in the office. Walter asked why the custodian was being paid from custodial funds rather than clerical funds. Doug Marshall said he felt they should be paid from the correct fund for which the work is being performed. Doug said he would check with the Board attorney to clarify the legal procedures that should be followed. Myron Thompson says this may be done on temporary basis. Doug will check with the Board attorney to have “temporary” legally defined.

The next Classified Council meeting will be Monday, October 15th, 2001.

We are experiencing problems with Classified Council representatives not attending the meetings. Some representatives who are attending are not receiving concerns to bring to the Council.

Newly elected representatives will take office at the November meeting. We will make available a list of the representative and the classification they represent, and where and how to reach your representative.

We are also hearing that employees are having problems with finding the minutes on the website. According to the district website manager, Pete Koutoulas, there are at least four ways to find the minutes on the website.

  1. By typing in the address line of your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) the following address: www.fcps.net/cc.
  2. If your start page is www.fcps.net or www.fcps.net, you will find a "drop-down" list box that looks like this:

All you have to do is click on the arrow, scroll down to "Classified Council" and click on that.
  3. Another means of finding it from the www.fcps.net site is to click on "Central Office." There is a link to Classified Council near the bottom of that page.
  4. If your start page is the FCPS Intranet (intranet.fayette.k12.ky.us), look in the right-hand column under the heading "Web Links", in the section "Employee Associations / Benefits." Click on "Classified Council."
