MINUTES OF COUNCIL MEETING OCTOBER 16, 2000 MEMBERS PRESENT: Bonnie Kelley, Secretarial Clerical; Mike Baker, Operations; Duane Pickett, Warehouse; Judi Hale, Food Service; and Jim Regan and Lewis Edwards, Transportation. ALTERNATES PRESENT: Walter Kirk, Custodial and Carolyn Sparks, Transportation. VISITORS PRESENT: Monica Johnson, newly elected representative to take office at November meeting) Secretarial/Clerical; Julianne Cornett, Food Service and Fay Isaacs, Tates Creek High School. OLD BUSINESS: Guidelines (bylaws) were discussed and approved. They will be available at the November meeting and also will be on the intranet. NEW BUSINESS: Lewis Edwards asked if there is any way to set up an incentive to curb absenteeism for bus drivers and monitors. He inquired if they could be permitted to use sick leave days during winter break and spring break. Dr. Fankhauser referred this to Ron Brown, Wayne Young, and Virginia Gregg for legalities of using sick time and what effect this would have on retirement payoff of accumulated sick leave, with other departments being treated the same way. Lewis also asked why the Transportation budget was reduced by 1% (from 5% to 4%) He was informed that ESS and CBI were to make up the difference. Bonnie Kelley inquired as to why professional development is not being approved for secretaries, although this was approved in the past. Doug stated that classified personnel has a total budget of $30,000 for professional development. Requests must be submitted to Professional Development for their recommendation and approval. Should this not be approved, then the classified employee must go the school, division, or department for the funding.
