Employees guide to the Classified CouncilThis document is intended to be a user friendly guide to help classified employees better understand the workings of their Classified Council. It is a condensed and paraphrased version of the official guidelines which govern the council and is not intended to replace or supercede the official document. The Classified Council was established by the Board of Education to insure attention to the needs and demands of classified personnel and to provide for input to the Board from classified personnel in all areas affecting their employment. Board members have an open invitation to attend Classified Council meetings, although not more than two may attend due to the Kentucky Open Meetings law. The Superintendent and other administrative staff do attend Council meetings to address issues raised and, if necessary, to relay any information and concerns to the Board. The Council is composed of elected representatives from the following employee groups:
ElectionsElections are held by October 1 each year. Employee groups with 2 representatives will elect a new representative for a 2 year term and a new alternate each school year. Employee groups with 1 representative will elect a representative for a 2 year term each even-number year and will elect a new alternate every year. All terms begin at the November meeting following election. The term for alternate representatives will begin in November and end on October 31. Alternate representatives serve and attend Council meetings if one of the regular representatives cannot attend. Alternate representatives are required to attend at least three meetings per year. Each of the above groups of classified employees may formally organize or assemble from time to time with their Council representatives to discuss matters affecting employment and may individually confer with their Council representatives as needed. MeetingsEach meeting opens with a roll call of regular members. After the roll call, the Superintendent or designee invites any eligible alternate to be seated at the conference table. Only after the call to be seated is an alternate duly seated and eligible to make, second and vote on motions. An elected representative to the Council may be removed from membership on the Council during the school year under any of the following conditions.
When a vacancy occurs, the current alternate becomes the new representative of the group and the employee who received the next highest number of votes in the last regular election becomes the new alternate. Last update: 7/28/2005 11:35:52 AM |
