Free tax preparation available for qualifying individuals and families

“Money now!” “Advance on your return!” “Don’t wait – get your tax advance today!”

We hear these advertisements consistently this time of year. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize the high costs associated with these loans, and think it might be their best bet for having their taxes prepared.

Fortunately, the process is much easier – and cheaper! Now eligible FCPS employees, parents and others can have their returns prepared and filed for free, and have their return in their hands in as little as a week without paying high interest on an "advance" loan.

This free tax preparation is available thanks to a partnership with United Way, LexLinc and CKEEP. The program is available to anyone (single individual or family) who made less than $40,000 last year. And the IRS-trained tax preparers are on the lookout for little known tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, that could put even more money back in your pocket – up to $4,500!

To find out if you qualify or schedule an appointment, simply dial 2-1-1. From outside Central Kentucky, dial (859) 313-5465.
