Summer school
Fayette County Public Schools offers several summer school options, including a physical education class, an online health course and credit recovery for students who need to make up a class or wish to retake a course to improve their grade.
P.E. in summer 2012
The initial-credit P.E. course runs 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 11-22 (first session) and July 9-20 (second session), both hosted by Henry Clay and Bryan Station high schools.
Pre-registration forms are available in each high school's guidance office. Students must have this form completed and signed by their counselor and a parent or guardian before coming to register in person. (Only hard copies are acceptable, with no faxes or emails allowed.) Applicants will bring this completed form to receive a numbered registration form since P.E. classes are limited to the first 90 Fayette County students per session/per site. Out-of-county applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
Students or their parents/guardians may register downtown at "It's About Kids" Support Services, room 201, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. Call (859) 381-4198 to confirm that space is still available.
The tuition is $160 for the ½ credit P.E. class; students who qualify for reduced-price lunches pay $100, and those receiving free lunches pay $75. Payments must be cash, certified check or money order payable to FCPS; no business or personal checks will be accepted.
For questions about P.E., call Pam White at (859) 381-4198.
eSchool
eSchool is a Web-based program that students can use anywhere they have Internet access. Final exams are proctored and administered by appointment at Martin Luther King Jr. Academy.
Students interested in taking the health class or other online courses should first make an appointment with their high school guidance counselor.
Health in summer 2012
To earn a ½ credit for health, students may take an online class during the summer session, which runs May 29 through Aug. 8. The course will be activated within 48 hours of payment.
Tuition is $125; reduced-lunch students pay $80, and free-lunch students pay $60. Payment must be cash, certified check or money order payable to MLK Academy. No business or personal checks will be accepted.
All students must have a "health only" eSchool application completed and signed by their guidance counselor and signed by a parent/guardian before registration. Only original forms will be accepted (no faxes or emails).
Bring the form and payment when registering between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays at MLK Academy. Rita Stamey, Michelle Higdon or Aaron Morris will be there to help. Registration closes June 6.
For questions, call (859) 381-4052.
