Early Start
Early Start is our state-mandated preschool program.
Goals:
Early Start enthusiastically supports and follows the goals of the Kentucky Early Childhood Standards. The Early Start learning environment is skillfully planned by certified teachers using the philosophy of the Creative Curriculum to ensure a high quality, developmentally appropriate education for all young children.
Program eligibility:
A child who meets the following guidelines is eligible for Early Start:
- Is a resident of Fayette County, and
- Is 4 years old on or before Oct. 1, and
- Falls under federal income guidelines
Or if the child:
- Is a resident of Fayette County, and
- Is 3 or 4 years old (or turns 5 after Oct. 1), and
- Completes a special education evaluation through FCPS. Children with special needs may only be admitted to the program upon approval of the Admissions and Release Committee.
- Reliable proof of identity, such as an official copy of a birth certificate | alternatives
- Social Security card
- Verification of household income
- Current immunization
- Physical exam (within the last six months)
- Eye exam (by an optometrist or ophthalmologist)
- Proof of residence in Fayette County
