General Counsel
What we do:
Our office, which includes an attorney, legal specialist/civil rights compliance officer, and legal administrative assistant, is responsible for providing sound, effective and timely legal advice and representation to the Fayette County Board of Education, the superintendent and district staff.
We provide day-to-day advice in the areas of state and federal education law, FERPA (student records), state and federal constitutional law, ethics, contracts, custody issues, personnel and student disciplinary matters. Our office also updates and prints the Statement on Rights and Responsibilities and Student Code of Conduct, and the Classified and Certified Employee Handbooks.
Our office handles litigation and manages the litigation handled by our outside counsel. Much of our work is preventive practice and requires an understanding of complex educational legal issues to anticipate problems before they arise and counsel the district administration accordingly.
How to find us:
Our office is in room 114 of "It's About Kids" Support Services, 701 E. Main St., Lexington, KY 40502. The main phone number is (859) 381-4278, and the fax number is (859) 381-4747.
