Kentucky Performance Reports (KPR)

Kentucky Performance Reports (KPRs) gave detailed information on how schools and the district were doing on the old Commonwealth Accountability Testing System, commonly known as CATS.

CATS was a way of grading schools based on how kids did on a combination of state and national tests and other non-academic indicators of success such as attendance and dropout rates. All of the results were combined, and schools received a numeric score between 0 and 140. The expectation was for every school to reach a score of 100 no later than the year 2014.

A new state testing system is rolling out in 2011-2012. In the meantime, Kentucky is using an interim testing system for accountability purposes.

Background

The KPR began with a growth chart that showed whether a school or district was on track toward its goals. Then it included detailed results from every subject on the Kentucky Core Content Test (KCCT), as well as scores from writing portfolios and any national tests required. Scores were shown by grade and by subject and were broken down by different demographic groups, including gender, race and socioeconomic status.
